Our starting point will be translating (Übersetzen) rather than translation (Übersetzung): we will focus on the practice(s) of going from one language to another, from one culture to another, moving between worlds.
Our focus will thus be on the movement of trans-porting, eine Bewegung, eine Tätigkeit, von Text zu Text(en), to image(s), to sound(s) … (oder umgekehrt).
We will be asking ourselves what is thereby transported: meaning? sense? content? style? structure? rhythm? un peu tout à la fois? And shall we call it re-creating or rather re-enacting? Trans-lating as re/inventing, traduire comme la réinvention de ce qui était contenu (enfoui?) dans l‘original?
We could start with reading, not knowing what is important (where should we start reading? where should reading start?). Opening up our perspectives, it might be that many modes of reference, viele Weisen der Bezugnahme would become possible — a knowledge inbetween thus emerging, ein Zwischen-Wissen, Wissen im Dazwischen of sorts.
We would then go on with different forms of experimentation, werden verschiedene Praktiken des Übersetzens untersuchen und erproben. We will learn, un/learn, come closer, get farther away, lose control, and find new grounds (hopefully) by transition, in Übergängen und Transit-Zonen.
